Laura T. BarnettScott Zissman - VP Operations, SSEEO

A recovered stroke survivor from 1996 (at the age of 35), Scott lives in the far northwest Chicago suburbs with his wife, who between them have 6 children.

A former firefighter and paramedic, he is now practice administrator for a large Chicago area interventional pain practice.

Coming across SSEEO through their website, he felt compelled to volunteer since he has personally experienced all facets of stroke...speech, motor, and memory problems, stress on personal relationships, ongoing concerns and fears, and the prospects of dealing with permanent deficits.

Through his experiences, he felt he could be an advocate for others since he is a long term stroke survivor.

His focus in coming to SSEEO is to support stroke patients and their families, as well as education and advocacy to improve quality of life and expedite recovery. His focus is also on needing to be more aware of strokes and the numerous sources they can occur from in all ages, with an emphasis on medical personnel recognizing them earlier to prevent irreversible damage.
